The arena is the largest and most modern in the country and is capable of hosting major sporting and cultural events such as concerts, performances, congresses, banquets, equestrian, circus, and motorbike shows, among others. To date, numerous top artists have performed here, including some of the most prominent musicians who appear on the world’s greatest stages: OneRepublic, 2Cellos, Michael Bublé, Andrea Bocelli, Rammstein, and others.
The seats are arranged over three levels of the shell-shaped arena, with the stands divided into three tiers (green level, VIP level, and red level). The floor area measures 1,150 square metres, with the largest usable flat concrete surface spanning 72 metres by 45 metres. The arena is illuminated by 124 floodlights, each of which can be individually controlled with adjustable intensity and direction. Disabled access seating for wheelchair users is located at the railing above Stand B, offering 49 spaces; companion seats are available in the rear row of Stand B. Beneath the Stožice Arena is a smaller heated hall that hosts various smaller, primarily sporting events throughout the year, and is also used by both home clubs for training. The Stožice Arena is home to KK Olimpija, RK Krim Mercator, and Slovenia’s national teams across various sports.
In addition to the two arenas, the entire complex contains over 200 different rooms, including changing rooms, offices, a fitness area, press rooms, a room for firefighters and police, a kitchen, catering facilities, a doping control room, a medical room, two receptions, as well as outlets for ticket sales, promotional items, food, and beverages.
The Stožice Arena had its grand opening with a basketball game between Slovenia and Spain on 10 August 2010, while the first cultural event filled the arena less than two months later, when the opera singer José Carreras performed there.
